In the latest edition of The New York Review, Mark Danner speaks of his experiences at a Barack Obama rally in Philadelphia and a John McCain rally in Virginia Beach in October. One of the contrasts he draws between the two rallies pertains to the body language of the two Senators. The viewpoint on the McCain rally is especially interesting from its choice of words: McCain’s body is “crabbed, restricted, frozen as if in a body cast”, and his movement on the stage is described as “hobbling”.
